Sonia Vihar is one of the unauthorized colonies in the North-East Delhi. The area is
very backward and the people are living under poor sanitary conditions. The
health and hygiene conditions in the area are very poor. The health environment
in the area is totally very pathetic. Sanitation systems fail because people do
not have proper facilities. This leads to poor sanitation and unhygienic
practices that have an adverse effect on community and environmental health.
Rapid
urbanization in Sonia Vihar is a critical challenge. The population of the area
is increasing day by day. As the property rates in the Sonia Vihar are cheaper
as compared to other cities of Delhi, hence the people are attracting to buy
property there. The people living in the area are facing too many problems. The
basic services such as water supply and sanitation are in very poor conditions. Sanitation, health and hygiene promotion is a
key aspect of sanitation service provision in conditions of urban poverty and dense
informal settlements, as the aim of introducing sanitation systems is to ensure
real health benefits.
